Not only making the world go crazy with their music, BTS is also said to create huge benefits for the kσrєαn economy and the nation’s reputation. Therefore, a senior kσrєαn military official believes that BTS’s postponement of military service is completely advisable because they increase the value of kσrєα’s national brand.

South kσrєα has one of the harshest military service laws in the world. In kσrєα, performing military service is a certificate of patriotism of each citizen. Therefore, almost all young kσrєαn men between the ages of 18 and 35 had to spend some of their youth doing military service.

Moreover, kσrєαn law stipulates that all men must enter the military before their 28th birthday, with the exception of those who are not physically fit or athletes who have won Asiad championships or medals at the Olympics (from bronze chapter or more).

However, in recent times, the Seoul government has pαssed an amendment to Military Service Law of kσrєα. Amendment to Military Service Law for K-pop megastars is a law that allows them to postpone their enlistment until the age of 30 at the request of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Artists who are recognized as popular culture artists, who have received Order of Cultural Merit or medals for their significant contribution to the enhancement of national reputation will be entitled to this law. Amendment to the law takes effect on June 23, 2021.

Based on this amendment, BTS members can delay their military service until they are at the age of 30. Speaking about BTS should postpone their military service, a UPI article said that Jung Seok Hwan, the head of the Military Manpower Administration, shared the military’s official stance.

He said the decision to give recipients of the Order of Cultural Merit the opportunity to defer their military service was made to “minimize the controversy over preferential treatment”. Jung Seok Hwan added that BTS’s postponing military service would be in the country’s interest as they “increase the value of the national brand“.

In order to be deferred from military service under the new amendment, K-Pop idols must receive a certificate of cultural merit from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. And currently, among Kpop groups, only BTS has met this condition. Normally, only musicians with more than 15 years in the profession receive a certificate of cultural merit. However, BTS was awarded Order of Cultural Merit in 2018, just 5 years after their debut in recognition of their efforts in spreading kσrєαn culture and language around the world.

While fans as well as Kpop fans are still eagerly waiting for information regarding the Kpop superstar’s enlistment plan next year because the oldest member of BTS – Jin has reached the age of service. military. This is also an issue that is mentioned a lot in interviews and the BTS members have been extremely open and honest about their military service.

Jin said, “As a kσrєαn, it’s natural. And someday, when duty calls, we’ll be ready to respond and do our best“. He also ever said that: “I have no doubt that the other members will make a good decision because, you know, this is not soṃệẗḧing that I can tell them what to do. I’ll be sad, but I’ll be watching them on the internet and cheering them on.”

Please put your trust and wait for the official decision from these great guys!
