To mark the end of another successful drama, Hyeri sat down for an interview with SpoTV News. She explained, “I remember when I first met the character of Dam. My heart fluttered. I felt I wanted the viewers to feel this heart-fluttering feeling as well. The film set was so warm and the ambiance was always good. It was so fun filming that I’m sad that it ended. I was so happy being able to be with such good people.”
In the drama, Hyeri took on the role of a college student, majoring in Korean history, who falls in love with Shin Woo Yeo, a 999-year-old Gumiho.
Hyeri explained, “I think the compliment, ‘I can’t imagine the character of Dam being anyone else other than Hyeri’ made me the happiest. I feel Dam is a character similar to me in the sense that she’s very clear with what she wants, she’s honest and direct. So I really wanted to participate in this drama.”
The actress also said, “There were a lot of scenes that were similar to the webtoon so I think a lot of people had high expectations. So I always contemplated on how I can increase the resemblance and synchronization. I put a lot of thought into how I can express Dam better for viewers to enjoy.”
In addition, Hyeri revealed that her boyfriend Ryu Joon Yeol had monitored every episode, so Hyeri expressed her gratitude saying, “He monitored every episode from start to finish so I’m so thankful to him.”
She concluded by saying, “It’s been more than six years since ‘Reply 1988’ finished but there are still people who are talking about the show and still show their love for Deok Sun. I think that’s because it was such a good drama that was memorable. Every time I did other works, Deok Sun’s image followed me but I think this is the first project that people saw me as the character of ‘Dam” and expressed her affection for the drama.
The cast of tvN’s “My Roommate Is a Gumiho” shared their thoughts on the drama ahead of its final episode.
“My Roommate Is a Gumiho” starred Jang Ki Yong, Girl’s Day’s Hyeri, Kang Han Na, Kim Do Wan, and Bae In Hyuk in a rom-com about a 999-year-old male gumiho who ends up living with a 22-year-old college student after she swallows the magical bead that would have made him human.
Jang Ki Yong, who played the gumiho (mythical nine-tailed fox) named Shin Woo Yeo, said, “Thank you very much to those who loved ‘My Roommate Is a Gumiho’ and Shin Woo Yeo. Thanks to the actors, director, writer, and the hardworking production staff, the set was always a fun place full of laughter. This was a happy and special project that I will remember for a long time. I hope that everyone else will also remember it as a fun project that made them laugh.”
Hyeri, who played the college student Lee Dam, said, “We started filming the drama during a particularly cold winter. The schedule could have been really difficult, but thanks to the kind cast and crew, I was always able to have fun on set. I have a lot of affection for the drama to the point that I regret that filming has come to an end. This drama means so much to me, and the viewers have sent us so much sincere love and interest, that I will always remember it as a happy and rewarding project. Thank you to all the fans who watched until the last week, and thank you to all the production staff and actors.”
Kang Han Na, who played the former gumiho Yang Hye Sun, said, “Thank you very much to the viewers who gave us their precious time to watch ‘My Roommate Is a Gumiho.’ I also want to sincerely thank the production staff, who worked so hard during the cold winter to perfect each scene and each cut. To my co-stars, and to my lovable character Hye Sun, I regret that I won’t be able to see you every week anymore, and I will always treasure the support and love that the viewers sent us. I hope that the viewers will remember our characters for a long time.”
Kim Do Wan, who played the pure-hearted Do Jae Jin, said, “Thank you to everyone who showed support for Hye Sun and Jae Jin’s romance. If our couple could have made the viewers laugh warmly for even a moment, then it would have been worth it. Fortunately, a lot of people sent us their support and love, so I was happy while playing Jae Jin.”
Bae In Hyuk, who played the popular college student Gye Sun Woo, said, “‘My Roommate Is a Gumiho’ has come to an end, and it feels both refreshing and regretful. In the drama, Sun Woo learned to become a better person through Lee Dam, and I trust that the viewers looked kindly on that process of growth. Like Sun Woo, I learned a lot through the drama and was able to change for the better. Thank you very much to the director and all the cast and crew.”
